How Medi Teddy™ IV Covers Came To Be :

Hi, I’m Ella!

When I was seven, I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura or, "ITP". Many kids who get this grow out of it within a few months, but for me it’s never gone away. That makes me a pretty rare case :).

ITP is not contagious; it means my body destroys the platelets in my blood. Without any medicine, I have an extremely low number of platelets in my body, and I am at a high risk for bleeding or injury.

From the ages of 7 to 14, every 6-8 weeks, I had to spend the day at an outpatient clinic getting IV infusions. Although I am now on an oral medication to boost my platelets, I never forgot those years of my infusions when the hospital equipment and big bags of medicine looked so scary and unfamiliar to me and that’s why I created Medi Teddy.

Despite ITP, I am a pretty regular kid and I still have things I love to do and are safe for me. I am a coxswain on my crew team, I play the cello, and I cantor at my church. I have my mom and dad, my three younger sisters, and two cute rescue dogs named Holly and Nova to support me.

By age 13, Ella created an invention that makes the hospital less scary for kids. 👍🏥 RELATED VIDEO " The kids who read bedtime stories to the world: https://youtu.be/fi_S5GnulR8 Subscribe to Kidskind's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/kidskind Know a kind kid?!
