How do I use a Medi Teddy?

The first thing to do…. is give it a name! This special bear conceals unsightly blood products and medication, and provides privacy during infusions on-the-go or during hospital visits by siblings, all while maintaining visibility and accessibility for caregivers. Hang Medi Teddy on the IV pole in front of the patient’s fluid, feeding, or blood product. Medi Teddy does not bear the weight of the medication and does not interfere with ports or bag changes.

How long do Medi Teddys last?

“Hope” plastic Medi Teddy is made from very stable FDA grade materials and should last for several years with good care. Just one can help hundreds of kids! With harsh chemical cleanings, colors may fade over time.

“Bailey” plush Medi Teddy holds up well to gentle machine washing and even color safe bleach detergents and should last for many months, even years, depending on the frequency of use and machine settings during washings.

What about hygiene and washing?

ENVIRONMENT: The outside of a bag of I.V. fluid is rarely sterile. Doctors, nurses, transport staff, and even parents touch the outside of IVs bags and tubing frequently whether to spike a new bag, help a child move from bed to wheelchair for a test, use the toilet, change IV poles, or simply to organize cords, wires, and tubing.

Medi Teddy “Bailey” Edition: belongs to the child, and, like a special blankie or robe is brought to infusions and is machine washable at home between infusions.

Medi Teddy “Hope” Edition: “lives” on the IV pole and is cleaned in the same way as an IV pump, tray table, or call light, with hospital chemical wipes, bleach or hydrogen peroxide-based cleaners, or steam between patients or as often as needed.
